Why go to Fairy Meadows & Nanga Parbat
Grass, pine and wooden huts at 3,300 m, looking straight at the 4,600 m Rakhiot face of Nanga Parbat — the mountain climbers call the Killer Mountain.
Getting to Fairy Meadows is half the story. From Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway a 16 km jeep track climbs the gorge to Tato — narrow, unguarded and genuinely exposed, driven only by the local jeep union — and from Tato it is a three-hour walk on foot or by mule to the meadow. What you arrive at is a shelf of alpine grass and pine at 3,300 m with Nanga Parbat, 8,126 m, filling the entire southern horizon. A further two hours brings you to Beyal camp and another two to the Nanga Parbat viewpoint above the Rakhiot glacier. Accommodation is wooden huts and tents; electricity is solar and intermittent.

Common questions
No. Jeeps stop at Tato and the last 4–5 km is on foot or by mule — about three hours up, two down. There is no road to the meadow and there is not going to be one.
It is narrow and unbarriered, and it is driven exclusively by the local jeep union whose drivers do it several times a day. We use union jeeps only and travel it in daylight.
