Experience the history of Baltistan in Shigar. Shigar Fort, the “palace on the rock” built around 1620, has been beautifully restored by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and now welcomes guests as a heritage hotel and museum. Nearby, the wooden Amburiq Mosque dates back to the 14th century. Beyond the village, the valley continues towards Askole, the last settlement before the Baltoro Glacier.

Yes. Shigar Fort operates as a Serena heritage hotel with around twenty rooms. It fills early in July and August, so we reserve it as soon as your tour is confirmed.
